Why motion design is the next step for your event
There are moments when an event isn’t just “beautiful”—the entire space suddenly comes alive. Light that doesn’t just shine, but breathes. Objects that don’t just hang or stand, but move. And a space that you no longer just look at, but experience. That is exactly where motion design is headed today.
At D-Dream, we’ve been feeling that breath of fresh air for a while now. And honestly? We love going with the flow. That’s why we’re excited to share that our network, the D-Dream Hub, is growing. What’s on the menu? A healthy dose of inspiration. Ready, set, go!

What exactly is motion design? 🎨
Motion design at an event is so much more than just a “nice extra.” It’s a way of thinking. Forget those static backdrops you’re stuck staring at all evening. The real art lies in transforming the entire space while the show is in progress. Instead of the venue merely serving as a backdrop, the entire environment becomes part of the choreography. And that… opens up a whole new world of experience!
“We handle the motorization and ensure the safe execution of everything that moves in a performance setting, from video structures to lighting and even aerial acts”
– Rik Uyttersprot, zaakvoerder van GRAViTY
What does that look like in real life? Think of a playground for adults filled with interactive gadgets.
Here are a few examples:
-
- Transforming installations: Structures that change shape during the show, causing the atmosphere in the venue to constantly evolve.
- Kinetic LED structures: Screens that don’t just stand still, but physically fly through the space, rise up, or tilt to create an impressive 3D effect.
- Moving light tracks: Lighting that not only changes color but also physically moves to direct the audience’s attention.
- Automated hoists: Props that lower from the ceiling or are raised at exactly the right moment, creating a dramatic or, conversely, very surprising effect.
Total synergy: light, sound, performance! 🎬
But the real magic? That happens when the line between physical technology and human performance blurs. Imagine: a performer moving in sync with the light and sound, where every move on stage triggers a reaction from the machines around them. Or a speaker who, with a single simple hand gesture, causes a massive LED wall to shift. At that moment, you’re no longer just watching a presentation, but experiencing a moment of pure wonder.
By applying motion design in this spatial way, your audience is no longer just watching a show—they are part of it.
- It opens up a whole new world of experience: The impact is many times greater because it defies the physical laws of a normal space.
- Unforgettable energy: The constant transformation keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- Emotional resonance: The grandeur of moving installations touches people on a visceral level that a flat screen can never achieve.
A match made in heaven (and in the workplace) 😍
The demand for more dynamic events is growing rapidly. That’s why we’re excited to announce our new partnership with GRAViTY, a specialist in motion design and technical motion systems for events. You can take this non-exclusive partnership quite literally: our expertise is coming together under one roof at our offices, in the D-Dream Hub.
Rik runs GRAViTY independently of any specific AV partner, but he’s set up shop in part of our warehouse and now gets to enjoy the cross-pollination and vibrant energy within our Hub. On the other hand, motion is now becoming a much more accessible creative avenue for D-Dream, thanks to our new in-house expert. It’s a total win-win!
“The expertise is now literally right next to us. This allows us to adapt more quickly and get involved earlier in the process. Customers immediately feel the added value”
– Elke Scheirs, Managing Director bij D-Dream
The Motion Guide 💡 Rik’s Tips for a Flying Start
Is your company looking to take its first steps into the world of motion design, but not sure where to start? Drawing on his years of experience as a lighting technician and motion design expert, Rik from GRAViTY shares some essential tips for turning your event into a visual spectacle:
- Start with the basics: Motion design isn’t just decoration—it’s a way to drive home your message. Always ask yourself first: What do I want to convey, and how can motion enhance this story?
- Choose quality over quantity: You don’t need hours of animation to make an impression. A single sleek, high-quality animation at the right moment does much more for your brand image than a constant stream of moving images.
- And last but not least, the golden rule… Incorporate motion right from the start: By including it as early as the conceptual phase, it becomes an integral part of your event. This ensures that technology and visuals blend seamlessly together.

Why this makes us so happy (and you too!) 🙌
Our biggest strength? Our direct lines of communication! Since Rik is literally right here with us at the D-Dream Hub, technology and creativity merge into a single seamless process. No more hassle with different parties working at cross-purposes—we provide a comprehensive solution where the visual aspect and technical execution go hand in hand.
