Thirty Years of Attention to Detail, and Boldness
What began as a passion project by electrician Carlos Scheirs has grown into a household name in the audiovisual world. Today, his son Bram and daughter Elke steer the course of D-Dream: a close-knit family business that creates audiovisual masterpieces for corporate events. In honor of D-Dream’s 30th anniversary, the family looks back on the past years—and looks ahead with a brand-new facility and an ambitious vision for the future.

From youth parties to corporate events
What began in the 1970s with a homemade disco bar for a party at the youth centre grew into a professional business. “My first pay check from a summer job went straight toward a turntable,” laughs founder Carlos Scheirs.
To be honest: “I never thought it would get this big. But if you’re good at something and you keep investing in quality, it just flourishes on its own.” The philosophy was clear even back then: “What you do has to be good. A perfectly tuned sound system and a top-notch experience for the audience—that was and still is the priority.”

The Next Generation at the Helm
Fifteen years ago, Carlos passed the torch to his children. Bram grew up surrounded by cables and speakers. “I trained as a furniture maker, but lighting and sound have always been a part of my life,” he says. “It’s a calling.”
Elke studied economics and joined the company with a clear mission: to streamline structures, refine processes, and define the strategy. “I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur someday, but I didn’t immediately see myself starting out in the family business,” she explains.
Together, Bram and Elke form a complementary dream team. While Bram ensures technical perfection and operational execution, Elke oversees strategy and long-term policy. “We complement each other perfectly,” she says. “That makes D-Dream not only strong, but also future-proof.”
Thirty Years of D-Dream
In September 2024, D-Dream celebrated its 30th anniversary. And although the industry has evolved significantly since Carlos first started out, one thing has remained unchanged: D-Dream’s unwavering focus on creating experiences, and the meticulous attention to detail that goes along with it. “In our industry, you only get one chance,” says Bram. “If someone isn’t satisfied or something goes wrong during an event, you can’t do it over. The past thirty years have taught us not to leave anything to chance, and we’ll keep it that way in the future.”
Every cable must be in the right place; every detail must be just right. We don’t just build lighting and sound systems; we build experiences that people talk about.

And that’s how it has to be: what was once a small local rental company is now an audiovisual player with major events under its belt. That means you have to remain a perfectionist. D-Dream has a core team of employees for that, plus an extensive pool of freelancers. “We’ve built a strong community around our company,” adds Elke. “Our people are our greatest asset. We place great importance on a warm, family-like work atmosphere, and our clients feel that too.”

And what about the next thirty years?
D-Dream has a solid foothold in the market today, but standing still is not an option. Bram and Elke are entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs make plans. After moving countless times, D-Dream now has its own custom-designed 3,000-square-meter facility. “This is more than just a new building,” Carlos beams. “It makes our work easier, more efficient, and even better.” With extra space, loading docks, and a large freight elevator, logisticsrun more smoothly than ever. The new offices are spacious, bright, and playfully designed; perfect for brainstorming sessions and creative collaborations. “An environment where ideas can flow and we can write the next chapter of D-Dream together,” says Elke.
“The industry is changing at lightning speed,” explains Bram. “We don’t want to follow; we want to lead. The mission: international projects, continued growth, and corporate events people will be talking about for years to come. Not because they want to be the biggest, but because they want to keep excelling at what they do. “We want to grow our way: with quality and the right people,” emphasizes Elke.
And with the same passion that drove Carlos to buy his first turntable many years ago.
