An Event Perfected Down to the Smallest Details

🎤 AV-image + D-Dream: When Audiovisuals and Storytelling Complement Each Other

Since 1997, AV-image has been helping companies and organizations convey their message powerfully through video. They develop the concept, film, edit, and ensure the result resonates. But the more powerful the video, the more important the setting in which it is shown. This is especially true for live events: there, visuals, lighting, and sound reinforce each other, and a story truly comes to life.

That insight brought AV-image into the event world. No longer just making videos, but creating complete experiences—with all the trimmings. And for large events like Buildwise Next, they sought a partner who could help bring that total experience to life technically. D-Dream turned out to be exactly that partner. Peter, director of AV-image, explains why.

✅ “Quality isn’t just an empty concept for us. It simply has to be right.

Finding a good AV partner turned out to be less straightforward than expected. “Quality and reliability are crucial to us,” says Peter. “Those are words that are often thrown around, but we’ve experienced the difference firsthand.”

In the past, they’d worked with companies where equipment was missing, timing was off, or three to four last-minute shipments were needed. “That creates unnecessary stress and takes the focus away from what really matters: telling the story.”

On the recommendation of a contact, AV-image ended up working with D-Dream. They had previously rented smaller equipment from them, and that went smoothly. What stood out right away? The structured preparation. No last-minute phone calls, no missing parts—everything was tightly organized. As AV-image expanded into larger productions, D-Dream simply grew along with them.

🎯 A clear vision, technically detailed down to the last detail

For Buildwise Next, the innovation event organized by Buildwise (the Belgian research center for the construction sector), AV-image had a creative yet technically challenging concept in mind. A catwalk had to run diagonally across the space, and both lighting and sound needed to have a powerful presence, without obstructing sightlines or camera angles, and without the option of using a hoist!

During several meetings, the entire idea was technically evaluated and optimized together with D-Dream. Sound, in particular, proved to be a challenge. Normally, this is suspended via a large truss structure above the stage, but that method could not be used here without disrupting the openness of the space.

The solution? D-Dream proposed a customized sound plan and created simulations with color-coded zones showing how the sound would spread. “That plan immediately gave us confidence,” says Peter. “We just knew in advance: this is going to work. And that certainty is worth its weight in gold.”

The lighting plan was also discussed in detail. “I wanted the lighting at eye level from the second floor,” says Peter. “Bram worked out the technical details perfectly. The 3D visualization we received was also a huge help in getting our client on board with the concept. They could literally see what the event would look like. That adds an extra layer to the communication, and it’s so valuable.”

⚙️ Complex setup, smooth setup process

Starting with the setup the day before the event, everything went surprisingly smoothly. Despite the complex setup, the many cameras (no fewer than nine!), the challenging lighting conditions in the building, and the 20-meter diagonal catwalk, everything worked perfectly from a technical standpoint right from the start.

What we appreciate about D-Dream is that they bring a large crew. This makes everything go faster and more smoothly, and leaves room to make adjustments where necessary and time for the details.

– Peter Carmeliet, Director at AV-image

What makes D-Dream particularly strong for AV-image is not only their technical expertise but also their approach to collaboration. “They communicate openly, contribute ideas, and are flexible. Even when we come to them with questions that aren’t strictly their responsibility.”

For example, during the event, a banner had to be rolled up and a series of cardboard cubes with the themes had to be placed on and off the stage right after the dance acts. Without saying much, the D-Dream team jumped in. “They just say: no problem, we’ll take care of that. And that makes working together so much more enjoyable.”

🔇 No comments on the technical aspects? That’s exactly what you want.

Buildwise’s feedback afterward was positive, not only about the final result, but also about the calm and control during setup and takedown. And the fact that there were no comments about the video or audio? For Peter, that was proof that everything went perfectly.

“If the technical aspects aren’t right, you notice it immediately. And that ruins the whole experience. But when everything is just right, nobody notices. That might seem contradictory, but for us, that’s a top-notch result.”

And he adds: “I’m a technician by training myself. I know how important it is that everything is right, down to the smallest details. And here, the whole thing just clicked.”

🤝 Trust, quality, and flexibility

The meticulous preparation, the technical execution, and the smooth collaboration ensured that Buildwise Next became an event that truly made an impression.

Peter sums up the collaboration as follows:

What I appreciate about D-Dream is that they always think along with us, are flexible, and deliver on their promises, even when we face unexpected surprises. That allows us to focus on our core mission: telling powerful stories. We can leave the rest to them with complete peace of mind.
